At Landsvirkjun, we consistently endeavour to maximise the potential yield and value of the natural resources we have been entrusted with, in a sustainable, responsible and efficient manner.
Guarantees of Origin
With the liberalization of European electricity markets, green certificate systems were introduced to disclose the source of renewable electricity and in order to create added value for producers of green energy.
Landsvirkjun is involved in various social projects and follows a policy of providing grants to good causes. The company has supported a number of causes, including various charities, cultural and educational projects and sports and leisure activities.
Energy from fresh air
Landsvirkjun is planning its first wind turbine in an area known as "Hafið" near Búrfell Power Station. Thanks to rapid technological development wind energy is fast becoming a viable option when it comes to environmentally friendly power – and wind – that's what we've got lots of!
